Early American Miniature Folk Art Painting dated 1840

Description

Wonderful folky miniature painted portrait of an attractive young lady in a blue dress.
The sitter has bows in her hair, a delicately painted face and a deep blue dress with a cowl.  In the background are two trees, one in light blue and one in light mauve, and a faintly painted fence.
On the back of the painting is written "Miss Mary Chambers drawn on the 6th May 1840."
Measures about 5" x 3 3/4".  From the darkening of the painting, it is clear that this is not the original frame.  The painting would benefit greatly from a better frame.
Good condition, with overall darkening.
