On consignment with us is this
size 38
untrimmed C.S. light gray jean wool jacket (“common shell jacket”) made by C & D Jarnagin a few years ago. This jacket has been part of a Confederate uniform static display and has
never been worn
(
except to try on here at the shop to get an exact size reference
). It remains in beautiful condition inside and out.
This jacket fits a gentlemen with a
size 38
chest. It’s tagged as a "42" (
see photo showing makers tags
)
BUT
this is an error. I wear a 42” jacket and this doesn’t fit me whatsoever. However, one of the guys here in the shop wears a 38 jacket and it fits him pretty good in the chest. So we size this coat as a
38
chest and
will stand behind that sizing
. Of course, please check this jacket’s additional measurements (further below) to insure it will fit you on ALL points.
Made from a light gray color jean wool and features a square cut standing collar, seven button front, two buttoning side belt loops and is constructed with a six piece body and two piece sleeves. The buttons are stamped brass Infantry block "I"s with seven 7/8” down the front, one 7/8” on each functioning side belt loop and two decorative (non functioning) 1/2" on the cuffs. We checked the Jarnagin website and it appears they no longer make these jackets in jean wool.
Inside we have an osnaburg body lining with muslin sleeve linings. There is a vertical entry inside left breast pocket in the body lining. Along the inside bottom edge of the coat is a jean wool wear strip. The bottom front corners of the coat are cut square.
