    Description

These are blacksmith-forged, handmade saw sharpening files that I had the good fortune of acquiring from a sadly now-closed craftsman supply shop in Japan.
I have found these files to be vastly superior to anything available through standard retail channels. They leave an impeccable finish on saw teeth and I use them for every saw I own from my 28-tpi dozuki to my 330mm anabiki. I have used them for everything from full recuts and reproduces to small touch ups. They are that much better than even the old stock machine cut files I used previously. These files have excellent feedback in use and will wear rather than dull. As I have come to understand them that is by design- instead of dulling the edges finely fracture once spent to reveal fresh cutting steel.
I am a bit hapless when it comes to spark-testing but these files appear to be extremely pure high-carbon steel. I have forged a few small carving tools from them and be very pleased.
They are stored in rust-resistant wrapping and have some rust blemishing where the oxide coating has worn over long-term storage. This will almost immediately disappear in use.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions - I’m happy to discuss saw sharpening, Japanese hand tools, tooth geometry, share my saw vice plans, whatever! I am an independent craftsman not a brick-and-mortar store so friendly questions are welcome.
