    Here is a nice 18th century ship's carved oak wood cathead in good original condition. The oak surface has a nice dark patina from age with a seawater weathered surface which can be seen in the photos. This cathead was carved by a ship's master carver and was placed on the end of the "cathead" wooden beam which holds the ship's anchor. This cathead is a growling lion face cathead which were normally placed on British warships during the 17th and 18th centuries. Originally from Leith docks, Edinburgh Scotland from a maritime naval collection. Measuring 5.9 inches wide, 5.5 inches high and 2.5 inches deep
